Sparkling is the right definition for this winter season. Sequins are one of the FW2016-17 trends.
They are everywhere: skirts, shoes, jackets, dresses. As Rihanna suggests in her song “Diamonds” this winter women have to “shine bright like a diamond”. So the FW 2016-17 collections drew inspiration from the glam rock of the ’70s but also from long dreaming dresses of the ’20s, a period in which sequins became trendy thanks to the discovery of pharaoh Tutankhamon tomb in which archaeologists found clothes embellished with metallic disks.
Versace covered backpacks with pop colored plastic tinsels, Ashish dedicated the collection to the sparkling discotheques and it seems to come back to 1974 when Bianca Jagger wore a golden sequins-covered dress on Vogue America in March.
Hedi Slimane for his last collection at Yves Saint Lauren thought about a sexy and shining woman: fuchsia sequins trousers or sparkling tight mini-dresses with maxi frills.
Moschino played with textiles contrasts creating a look that has to shine all the day.
Tom Ford drew inspirations from the luxury of the ’20s with soft volumes and mixing different materials, such as spangles or rhinestones with feathers. Casual-chic mix&match for Les Copains which matches delicate transparent skirt with rhinestones embroideries with maxi wool sweater.
Little coins, colored or metallic sequins, rhinestones – which seems to be precious stones invented during the 18th century by Georges Frédéric Strass, jeweler of King of France Louis XV -invite women to play with fashion and enlighten winter days with colors and light.
The categorical imperative is to shine.
